Equipment

  • Stand Mixer
  • Wire Tray
  • Chef Knife
  • baking sheet

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter (8 oz)
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Brown Sugar (4 oz)
  • 1/4 cup Granulated White Sugar (2 oz)
  • 2 cups White Flour
  • 1 ½ tspn Cocoa Powder
  • ½ tspn Baking Soda
  • ¼ tspn Sea Salt

Instructions

  • The first step is to preheat your oven to 350°F.
  • To make the dough, you'll need 1 cup of flour, ¾ teaspoons baking powder, ¾ teaspoons salt, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of milk and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract.
  • Mix all the dry ingredients flour, cocoa powder and baking powder together first before adding in the wet ingredients such as eggs and milk.
  • Whisk everything well together with a whisk or an electric hand mixer- either one will work just fine.
  • Get the dough mixture in equal amounts to form uniform size cookies. For this I recommend using an ice cream scoop.
  • Make cookie dough balls using the center of your palms and place them one by one.
  • Cover each cookie dough ball generously in icing/powdered white sugar. Do repeat the process if you feel dough moisture has made the surface damp.
  • Place these sugar coated cookie dough balls in the oven for 11 minutes.
  • Get the baking sheet out and place it over a wire tray to get to room temperature.

FAQ’s for chocolate crinkle cookies

Here contains a list of frequently asked questions which I usually get from my readers and their answers.
What kind of cookies are these?
These are chocolate crinkle cookies. They may also be called chocolate almond cookies, Italian almond cookies, or almond rochers.
Can I substitute the ingredients?
No, these ingredients are required. It will not work if you do not use them all.

How to store chocolate crinkle cookies?

  • You can store baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Or store in an airtight container or ziplock bag in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.
  • My recommended way which I myself use is to store cookie dough balls on a baking sheet until they are chilled. Once dough balls are chilled they won’t still and I store them in a container of air tight plastic bags.
  • Just when you want to make chocolate crinkle cookies, get these chilled dough balls, defrost and room temperature and you are ready to serve. Storing dough balls instead of baked cookies will store these up to four weeks.
