History of chocolate crinkle cookies

History of crinkle cookies is one of the most interesting sections for anyone who loves cooking.

The first patent for a chocolate crinkle cookie was filed in 1984 by Nabisco executives. The original recipe was pretty simple and consisted of sugar, butter, margarine, vanilla extract and cocoa. They were made in a special machine that created the characteristic “crinkles.”
In 1988, Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book was published and Crinkles became one of the many recipes to be included within its pages.

The recipe called for vegetable shortening instead of butter or margarine. That same year, Nestle released their own recipe for chocolate crinkles with an updated list of ingredients including: baking powder, salt, sugar and flour.
